AMAR BASIL

Amar Basil

NAKED DAWN –(worthy of mention)

The creeping smell of newness invades me
A graceful nudity of Goodness it bore
In all colours of outlandish promises
I sunk into the muse, it took all of me
Let me bare this darkness once and not be judged
Let me spill my nakedness and not be vulnerable
Let me embrace this fear cause I wanna live and love
Let my crown of shame ripple ten thousand Joys
Let this naked dawn weave cords of Goodness
Priceless, Priceless, Priceless!

-Amar Basil

Eyes opened to an undefined gaze
Stained with deafening shadow;
This quietness glowed undisturbed.
Gracefully, the feeble air walked
It touched all over me
Like whiff of distant hum.
Engulfed in that little sweetness,
I moaned...I burned...

Could I embalm these tides?
Should I savour nature’s kiss?
Like one that ended before
The touch of a lover’s lips.
My moments glided into muse,
Helplessly wooed to sensitivity
And I couldn’t help the gush
Of smudgy laugh, reverberating deceit

Such conspiracy of smothering silence
Submerged in sunken dreamlessness
Enlaced in the Blues’ kingly hues
I yearned slavishly for dawn.
‘Twelve fifty!’ The tardy arrows pointed
The night still riding at ease-
It mocked at my yellow
Rubbing its back on my window.

Twelve fifty five...

Amar Basil

It was quite a lonely road

Palm trees mocking in great laughter at my gloom
Shadows closing in on both sides invading my path
dusk approaches, veils swiftly in an aura of dignity.
Suddenly like an unfamiliar dream, the sky was crowned
with a surreal chapter of mischief.

I have walked this road once
As days sniff the unseen elements
But now all there is are hints of hollowed soundless
screams of inane complaint of nature
Voices, voices
What are they?

I have once heard stories of gliding phantoms
What horror imagery and drama they beget
Summon your wit! My heart pleaded and plunged
Run!   Run!   Run!
Fear howled dreadfully
Still in extremity, my legs hesitate to hasten.

Gbum!...  Gbum!...  Gbum!...
The song from amidst my breasts
In synchronization with the terrifying chants
Of darkening trees that bewailed a primal cry
Longer strides I took, soaked in jittering awe

Far off in the concealed distance
An envisaged form of prudence
Staged in wait of thoughts passionately harbored
Splendid! I hurried towards an acquaintance
An opaque contentment embraced my being.

Intimately, the distance began to uncover
Then my deceit was unmasked to behold a crude effigy
of a gentleman embellished in Agbada
With hilarious mean eyes infinitely regarding nothingness
Posed shoeless on a platform, geared for departure.

A creation that dreads not light nor darkness
Burdened with a sole expression against all odds.
Thou I esteem as mystically noble
Yet, void of splendor and naively untamed
Alas! Awareness creeps rashly back, inviting the dreaded.

My guts, tightened and frozen to silence
My soul shattered and squalled like bruised wind
Hell was let loose, for perfect blackness has taken residence.
All vision drowned and yielded into deep obscurity
My Spirit, the Earth and the Heavens departed, dragged to slumber.

Now a body in flight, aimless race to safety or doom
Who cares, for man must flee!

Aha! Bright morning! Beautiful morning!!!
I arose to the voice of a real acquaintance.

Amar Basil

Up on your window
The flattering flickering flare
Bleeds a bleary blues
And hints a grotesque peace
That promises only a fair piece
But I take what's mine
On watery wave of music
On dusky broken blooms
On sounding splattered spin
I always take what's mine
Whoever or whatever it may...
Call it base but I own today.

I set to motion a stern alluvion
To wash over this creeping reverie
That takes in a silent strike
And keeps me three steps away from gold
I kindle this base to strength
Moisten my muse to fly.

Time! Who dares to tame?
The greyness of memories stacked
Many, hoped to be forgotten
A Moving painting of dense desire
A silhouette of conquered confusion
Sculptured in feeble flames
Those were the tales...
The Lion of Judah broke the veils
So I stumped against the grain
And seized the Sun on my train
Banta banta! I step to the base
I take what's mine! With the Ace.
